About

I’m a teacher first and a software / web developer  second – the dreaded combination for the Turing tarpit syndrome. In academia, we  strive to come up with theoretically pure, universally applicable solutions. But in practice, universal solutions don’t apply to any context.

I’ve set up permanent camp on the rim of the Turing tarpit. Sometimes I can’t figure out if I’ve fallen in or not. It doesn’t matter, as more often than not, “stuff happens” not on safe flat ground, but at the edge of the precipice .

I write about design patterns at as3dp.com, continuing the discussion that began with the book, ActionScript 3.0 Design Patterns, that I co-authored with Bill Sanders. This blog is a foil for the design patterns blog as it is a release for my other interests that are not burdened by theoretical purity.

The primary intent of my writings are to share my passion for developing applications using Flash and Flex, teaching about design patterns, WordPress plugins and themes, software development workflow, front-end engineering, and informal learning.
